I know most of what I will say about this is obvious, but this latest thing about Clarence Thomas's wife, Virginia Thomas, calling Anita Hill to ask for an apology is bizarre in the extreme. Who does this? Intoxicated people, I guess. Her explaination is a little odd too, "I did place a call to Ms. Hill at her office extending an olive branch to her after all these years, in hopes that we could ultimately get past what happened so long ago."
Is that really how one goes about extending an olive branch?
I know I'm super cynical here, but anytime something ends up in the news, you have to consider the possibility that the person who "created" the story did it only for publicity. Sure, it's possible Virginia Thomas just has poor social skills and doesn't know when to leave well enough alone. I'm thinking it's more likely she's about to publish a book.
Who knows, if we're going to go down the path of creating conspiracy theories, why not assume that Anita Hill is on on the whole thing? Maybe Virginia Thomas and Anita Hill are planning to write a book together after Anita Hill makes a public apology to Virginia Thomas on Oprah's show.
Yeah, that seems like a bit of a stretch, and assumes that Anita Hill was lying when she testified against Clarence Thomas. It could go the other way, though. Maybe Clarence Thomas apologizes to Anita Hill on Oprah? Still a stretch--I don't think Clarence Thomas needs publicity.
I guess we'll see, if you forget that this ever happened then it's more likely Virginia Thomas was intoxicated, has horrible social skills, or just had a really big brain fart.
Until then, I choose to be cynical.

I'm gonna go with the "really bad social skills" and say there may also have been a glass of wine involved, but I prefer not to attribute to malice what can be explained by ignorance.
