I wonder how many people know what they're getting into when they pick out a major in college.  Could this be why some people have trouble picking a major (or rather, did these "indecisive" people know something I didn't in college)?  I didn't have that much trouble.  On the other hand, I could have easily ended up majoring in mathematics, which might have been a mistake.  whatever.

It would be awesome if there were better shadowing programs for young people getting ready to enter or already enrolled in college. I guess the drawback is that time is money and businesses aren't in the game to throw money into an investment with little chance of significant return. It seems that the big players may do something like this as part of a long-term recruitment strategy, but even their reach must be quite limited in comparison to the number of people sitting in the position of choosing how to invest a huge amount of their time and money to train for a vocation they may quickly despise.

I think we can all agree that the "boomerang" generation is partially a result of giving young people too little exposure to working life before thrusting them into it. Of course we're all just lazy weaklings compared to our grandparents, but what're you gonna do.

Of course another problem is that there's so much social and psychological change happening in those years. How can a person think about planning a life when her concept of self is still rapidly evolving, and her life is filled with the drama of the discovery of herself and others?

Of course we all got through it. I'm really glad I had all the slack and all the help that I did though. Hopefully I can pass that help onto others someday.

Where are you, Handrew? You'd better have a good explanation for this prolonged absence.
